The Mu Chapter is sponsoring its seventh annual presentation/discussions by
UNC Charlotte faculty and scholars who are engaged in international
issues.

Topic: “The Sultanate of Oman: From
Medieval to Modern in 3 Decades” Presentor & discussant: William P.
Brandon, PhD, MPH, Department of Political Science. Brandon spent a
year as a Fulbright Scholar in the Sultanate of Oman on the Southeast
corner of the Arabian Peninsula

Topic:
“Sino-American Educational Research: Opportunities and Challenges”
This will be a report on findings from a comparative study with
focus on issues of education systems, curriculum, testing, student
behavior, teacher education and expectations, and parental involvement.
The presentation will include direct observations in both the US and
China.

Education.

Annual meeting & Induction of new members - November 17, 3:30-5:00
Induction of new members and recognition of a member of the Charlotte
community who has made a significant contribution to the
internationalization of the community. The recipient of the honorary
membership is the guest speaker at the annual meeting and generally talks
about his/her work in the community.

2. Juried
Paper Competition on the theme of 'Crossing Borders'
To encourage students who have had an international experience (US American
and foreign students) to write about life-changing experiences as the result
of 'crossing a cultural border'. Cash prizes are offered in the student
categories of graduate , undergraduate and English Language Training. The
winning papers are posted on the Chapter's webpage and published in the
University's student newspaper. Co-sponsored by UNC Charlotte International
Club.
3. International
Education Reception on April 13, 2010
This event is jointly sponsored with the Office of International Programs.
The International Education Faculty and Student Awards are given at this
time along with other international recognitions including the winners of
the Juried Paper competition. Visiting scholars are invited and given
special recognition.
4. Dinner
& Conversation
This includes a Dutch-treat dinner at an ethnic restaurant for members and
guests and conversation with the recipient of the previous year's faculty
International Education Award. The conversation topic is generally some
element of their research or work about which they feel some passion.
