International Women’s Day Celebration
March 22, 2007 • Storrs Gallery • UNC Charlotte
International Women's Day
(8 March) is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world. This date is
also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a
national holiday. When women on all continents, often divided by national
boundaries and by ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic and political
differences, come together to celebrate their Day, they can look back to a
tradition that represents at least nine decades of struggle for equality,
justice, peace and development.
Keynote Speaker: Elisa Rodriguez
Gordon
Elisa
moved to Charlotte from Venezuela eleven years ago and pursued a distinguished
career in the financial industry, but it is her commitment to the Latin American
community in Charlotte, and the broader Charlotte community that commend her as
a truly remarkable woman. Elisa founded and chairs the Latin American Chamber
of Commerce of Charlotte, founded and chairs Alpha (the Association of Latino
Professionals in Finance and Accounting, Charlotte Chapter), is involved with
the Latino Pathways program supporting the workforce development of Latinos in
the community, is the host of the Bilingual TV show Caminando, and
recently won the 2005 Latina Business Woman of the Year award. She is also
involved with Loaves and Fishes, Girl Scouts and the Levine Museum of the New
South.
