International Women’s Day Celebration
March 23, 2006 • Storrs Gallery • UNC Charlotte
International Women's Day (8 March) is an occasion marked by
women's groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United
Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday. When women on
all continents, often divided by national boundaries and by ethnic, linguistic,
cultural, economic and political differences, come together to celebrate their
Day, they can look back to a tradition that represents at least nine decades of
struggle for equality, justice, peace and development.
UNC Charlotte joins in the celebration of International Women’s
Day by recognizing individuals within the UNC Charlotte campus community for
their contributions to global and local women’s issues. The purpose of this
celebration and these nominations is to acknowledge that our campus community is
filled with local women who embody the richness of internationalism. We would
like to recognize these individuals for their contributions to UNC Charlotte and
the world.
The Office of International Programs thanks you for your
participation and attendance. It is our mission to strengthen the international
dimension of the UNC Charlotte campus community and we are delighted that you
have joined us to honor these women on this special day.
