Programs
can be arranged at any time of the year. They range from one week to
several months, but are shorter than a semester. |
| Participants/Size
of Group |
Programs
are for groups of 10 or more. Participants may be undergraduate or
graduate students, or mid-career professionals in any field.
Participants can come from one institution or various organizations.
It is recommended, but not required, that students have a common academic
or future professional interest. |
| English
Proficiency Requirements |
Instruction
is in English, but no minimum level of English proficiency is required.
TOEFL/TOEIC scores may be requested for placement and to target the level
of instruction. Interpreters can be provided upon request. |
| Program
Cost |
The
fee is based on the size of the group, length of stay, and program
expenses. |
| Room
and Board |
Housing
in an on-campus dormitory or in off-campus hotel is included in the
program fees. The level depends on desired expense. On-campus
cafeteria meals can be included, but are not recommended. |
| Transportation |
Airport
pick-up and return is included. Ground transportation is provided
for the group to all scheduled program activities. Air fare is
generally not included. |
| Curriculum |
Programs
are custom designed to meet the training objectives of the sending
institution. The curriculum is planned by the program director
in consultation with the sending institution, UNC Charlotte professors,
local experts, and program instructors. |
| Theme
and Project |
A
theme and project that can be used to integrate all the program components
is recommended. Students deliver an oral presentation to present the
results of their projects. |
| Professors,
Instructors, Guest Lecturers |
Professors
and community experts deliver instruction and programming seminars, guest
lectures, workshops, discussions, and coaching on and off campus. |
| Experiential
Components |
Company
visits and networking opportunities are included in every program.
Community service experiences, job shadowing, team building, leadership
training, as well as meeting with business leaders can also be included. |
| Special
Skills Components |
Oral
presentation skills, test preparation (TOEFL, GRE, GMAT), accent
reduction, cross-cultural communication, resume writing, job interview
skills, and business etiquette are examples of special skills training
that can be included. |
| English
Language Training |
English
language skills classes can be included in any program. Instruction
can emphasize oral or written communication for conversation or
professional interaction. The level of instruction is adjusted to
the proficiency of the participants. |
| Cultural
and Recreational Components |
Weekend
home stays, parties in homes, sports events, outdoor adventure activities,
concerts, museums, night life, and sightseeing excursions can be included. |
| Schedule |
An
intensive schedule with very little free time is typical. Weekend
activities and trips can be included or weekends can be free for
independent out of town travel. |
| Academic
Credit/Certificate |
Each
student receives a certificate upon completion of the program. UNC
Charlotte academic course credit is not included in program fees unless
participants pay university tuition. Grades, syllabus, course
description, and all documentation requested will be provided to enable
the sending institution to grant credit. |
| Preparation/Follow
Up |
All
programs include a detailed, pre-departure orientation manual and an
extensive report following the program. UNC Charlotte faculty can
visit your campus to provide orientation and/or follow up classes.
Web board discussion groups and distance learning classes can also be
arranged. |
